I’ve heard that people who stutter think faster than they can speak and that’s why they stutter.

She has awesome support but unfortunately not all of us have that vital support. I’m 28 and I immigrated illegally from Mexico when I was 8. There’s a lot of ignorance within my family. My own family made fun of me as a child and to this day they believe I choose to stutter as if I had some sort of control over it.

I too am a stutterer, but it is not as bad as it used to be. I think the key is to take your time when speaking and to always remember to breathe. Also, confidence plays a key role in getting that word out when you know you’re gonna have trouble with it.

That teacher should atleast have the consideration to pull the student aside when class is over, one on one and ask that student if they are comfortable reading out loud in class. For some reason though, I was very fluent when reading out loud to class in the 6th/7th grade. Guess I was lucky there!

Interesting. I don’t stutter, but I was diagnosed with a condition called Focal Dystonia which has wrecked my ability to play my instrument completely. If you substitute the word ‘talk’ with ‘play’ in Mr Schneider’s description, he is describing my condition exactly. Now, the medical prognosis of FD is that it is neurological and irreversible. However, many many musicians have been rehabilitated completely by focusing on the psychological/emotional aspect.

Rebecca is so pretty and she stutters. Poor girl. She will probally benefit from the speech easy device. I wish there will be a cure someday for stutters because it does suck to stutter esp. when you are trying to talk and flirt with the opposite sex.

I have to agree that it might be genetic. Both me and my twin brother happen to stutter and have done so all our lives.

It’s a shame that “normal” people think you have some mental disorder when they hear us talk, they mock us. The truth is totally opposite: I’ve seen some reports which state that stutterers have significantly higher IQs.
