Stop Stuttering Foundation

One of the first things you need to realize to stop stuttering is that stuttering is not a disease; it has been classified as a defect. Stuttering has been known to cause low self esteem among those who stutter. As someone that has a stutter you may feel that you are not taken seriously because when you begin to speak you take up a lot of time. Even if the other person is understanding and has patience with you, it still weighs heavily on your mind. There are many methods that have been tried and tested over the years. I am going to discuss a method here that can help you if you implement it properly.

Stop Stuttering With Self Control Methods

This method has to do with exercising your self control and to focus before you begin to speak. It is believed that you can stop stuttering if you slow down your train of thoughts and your speech. What happens when you stutter is that you sometimes think too far ahead and your mouth essentially cannot keep up with your brain. I think everyone is guilty of this at times, but with people who have a stutter is more prominent. You tend to lose the correlation between your trains of thoughts and your speech.

Sometimes it is easier said than done, you should think before you speak. Instead of just jumping intro the fray when a conversation is going, you should pause, hold back, think and then begin to speak. You will find the benefit once you slow down. As there is no stuttering cure medically, you need to factor in a lot of trial and error to get over the defect. If you slow down, you will find that you are not stuttering as much. Speaking slowly, with pauses and softly, is the key to avoid stuttering. With time and practice this method is proven to work.

Stop Stuttering and Planning Ahead

With more and more practice you will be able to think far ahead and you will be training your subconscious mind to work in a different manner. After time you will not have to think about it as often because your subconscious mind will be trained, just like an athlete trains their body for a sporting event. It will automatically take over for you and you will be able to stop stuttering almost completely.

Sometimes it will be hard to wait and think before you speak. I myself at time will be so excited about what I am going to say next that I am not really listening to the other person and my mind begins racing. It is best to even count in your head and let your mouth take a deep breath. This allows you to get back in sync and begin to speak in a clear and simple manner. One good trick is to try to visualize what you want to say before speaking to stop stuttering when you speak.

This is just one of the many methods that are out there to assist people with a stutter. Other forms would include hypnotherapy, one-on-one speech lessons, and even group programs. I will get into those in future articles. I hope you can utilize this method to help stop your stuttering today. Post a comment or send me an email with your opinion and you success story.

For another great solution go to: Proven Method To Stop Stuttering Today

When someone has a stuttering problem, they can quickly lose confidence when facing other people. Stuttering is a severe condition in speech where someone experiences problems in fluency. Some of the symptoms include facial muscles becoming tense as they try to speak. This is very common to children who are just beginning to talk. Stuttering is a disfluency that causes them to repeat some of syllables of the words they are trying to speak. Although this is normal, the severity can cause concern for some parents.

Stuttering can start in the early childhood when a child is in the developing stage. It has been documented that some children stutter at least ten to fifteen percent of their total speech. It is proven that this does not affect one’s intellect; it affects one’s social state, especially when they begin to date and interact with other people. For this reason some people opt to be loners and just choose a career that does not involve meeting people.

There are many different degrees of stuttering. Some people do not stutter when they do certainly things like singing, but when carrying on a basic conversation they can barely get a word out. There are also those who do not stutter on good days but just start to stutter on other days.

There are two important things that can help someone stop stuttering when trying to communicate:

1. Try to think things through before starting to speak. This will help make you more confident in what you are about to stay. According to a recent study, people who have this speech defect are often more intelligent than those who do not stutter. The only problem is that, since they think too fast at times, their mouth is left behind; thus, stuttering begins. The rhythm of their speech does not coincide on how they think. That is why thinking first is highly advisable. Begin with just trying to slow down when trying to talk. Once this is practiced, speed of speech can be practiced and controlled.

2. Say the words mentally first. Practicing what is about to be said is helpful prior to saying it out loud to others. This is called aural visualization, the same technique successful people are doing when they try to visualize their positive future and success even before it starts to happen. Literally, say the words and hear every single word in your mind before saying it loudly.

These are just a few of the techniques that are available to help someone stop stuttering. For another great solution go to stop stuttering now.

In my time working with people to help them stop stuttering, I have been asked many times, why certain people develop a stutter. Personally I believe there are many reasons and I am going to share some of them and give examples of why certain people I have helped developed a stutter.

My best friend had a speech impediment, known as a stutter for eighteen years; I could see how it affected him and he felt that it was ruining his life. He developed the stutter and just four years old. After years of research and trying numerous therapies, products, and group session we found the answer. I was able to help my friend overcome the stutter at the age of twenty-two. For more information on the product I found, go to: http://www.stop-stuttering-now.com. I saw what this did to him and because of the pain I saw him go through, I now as a career help other people to achieve fluency. As you can imagine, I have therefore met and helped many people who stutter. When working with someone I do a little research and ask them, how and why in their opinion their stutter started.

Quite a few people are not sure; however other people state the following reasons:

• It was triggered after a traumatic event

• It runs in the family

• They copied a friend at school who had a stutter and then it stuck with them

• An over aggressive relative

• Because they were left handed!

A couple of years ago, I had a female client who told me about how she had developed a stutter. She was able to talk fluently until the age of twenty-four. She then became pregnant for the first time, and was very excited about the prospect of becoming a mom.

The day of the birth arrived and unfortunately the delivery was particularly difficult and very painful. This really shocked and traumatized her; she had never imagined that it could have been that bad. After the birth of the baby, who was a healthy boy, she developed a stutter.

Not all people who stutter have it from an early age; another one of my clients was fluent until the age of nineteen. He then was in a severe car crash and this triggered a stutter in him.

Have you ever asked yourself, I wonder what my life would be like if I had a stutter? I would say that you probably would not even think about the topic unless you knew someone with a stutter and could see the kind of pain that is causes people. Having a stutter is certainly not something that anyone wants to go through life with. As a public thought we should appreciate the pain that this causes someone and we should a little more compassion.

One of my good friends Dave had a stutter and he was able to stop stuttering with my help. After he had overcome it, I decided to ask some of our mutual friends, how they thought life was like, having a severe stutter. I expected different responses of course but, some just annoyed me. My buddy Tom said “I always thought that Dave felt a bit sorry for himself and he made out that his stutter was some huge disastrous problem. It’s not like he couldn’t talk at all, is it? I also felt at times that he lacked courage, for example always asking Tony to order your drinks for him.”

So then I talked to our friend John he said, “I found it quite funny that at times Dave would be talking really well, but within a few minutes he couldn’t get a word out.” Our friend Amber joined in “I felt a bit sorry for Dave, seeing him struggle, was quite painful to watch.” This was the kind of comment I was looking for, some compassion. One of our other friends, Tim, said “I am glad that I don’t stutter, but what I think Dave needed to understand was that he was not the only one with issues and problems. I am extremely impressed that he has managed to stop stuttering and overcome it though.”

Of course Jim’s comment annoyed me the most and I responded, “So you think to have a stutter is not that bad then Tom? OK, I challenge you to go up to the counter and order some food, but when you order it I want you to stutter on some of the words.” I told him what to say and which words to stutter on. I then said “After you have stuttered on the words, I want you to see how it feels and to experience the way people look at you. You may then understand a little bit more of what Dave went through.” Of course Jim decided not to participate in my challenge, even after a severe amount of prompting and teasing from different members of our group.

Having a stutter is not nice and when someone who has a stutter seeks help, please offer them your full support. Dave was quite fortunate that some of his friends did go to the bar for him and his family did assist him by making make certain phone calls. At other periods in his life though, other people did make fun of him and at times he would become very depressed and withdrawn and would wonder why he had a stutter.

I helped Dave stop stuttering and overcome his problem. You can help someone you know too. I was fortunate to find a solution that helped me give Dave back his full self confidence and to never rely on someone else to speak for him again.

I am happy to report that because of http://www.stop-stuttering-now.com, Dave does not need me to order his drink ever again.

One thing you can try and do is to think ahead before speaking. This will allow your thoughts to fall in line with your speech. What this will do is help you speech automatically fall in line with your thoughts. To stop stuttering today, you can begin by thinking before speaking rather than pausing after speaking. If you slow down and pause before each word, then the speed of your speech will normalize.

Try thinking over and rehearsing in your mind what you plan to say and how you plan to say. It would create a blueprint in your subconscious mind. When you would begin to speak, the sentences will follow in a pattern and it would roll out from your subconscious mind. You can do some aural visualization that would increase your optimism and confidence for the speech. Aural visualization will help you to literally mentally visualize each and every word you plan to say in your speech.

You can stop stuttering if you can gain back confidence. And confidence comes fast and quick if your thoughts are patterned. If your speech is patterned with your thoughts, the flow will be spontaneous and you would stop stuttering. Mentally, you should weigh, listen to and rehearse the sounds of each word you say or plan to say.

But, you can begin to cure the speech impediment of yours by some simple easy to follow methods. The first problem with those who stutter is that they tend to speak too fast and their pulses are always racing when they have to speak. You are most likely to face this situation when you have to speak. You should be calm and quiet always. Any excitement is likely to increase your chances of stuttering more than usual. You should be calm and not allow your pulse or mind to race at all.

When you are talking to someone or a group of people, you might start thinking to your yourself, I wonder what they are thinking, are they giving me weird looks, are they laughing at me. Well I will be the first to tell you that this is common for people who don’t stutter as well. People tend to be subconsciously not confident when they speak. This can be magnified greatly with a person who suffers from a stuttering problem. One thing you can do is to get over the fear that people are judging you. Become confident in your speech and make sure you speak slowly and pause when need to make sure you mouth is keeping up with your brain. Pausing allows you to take deeper breaths and not to lose your train of thought. If you can speak slowly, your thoughts and speech will be synchronized. The stuttering arises more when you tend to think more than you can speak and in the process, the train goes off the track so to speak.

Do not look at any one person in particular, but stare blankly as if you are looking at the crowd. The crowd will feel that you are speaking to them as you keep shift your vision around the room. This will also help take away the inbuilt fear that somebody may be marking you or watching every move you make and every slur in speech that may come out. Take the attitude of just not caring what others may think about you. If you have the right frame of mind, then your thoughts and speech will follow a pattern and you will be less likely to stutter.

One of the best things you can do is to practice a speech in front of the mirror. This give you an idea how you would look when you speak. One thing I have found extremely helpful is to memorize a speech. This way you know it in and out and you d not have to rely on your cue cards. You can stop stuttering today if you can get confidence back when you speak. It is a lack of confidence and a fear that makes you shy away from speaking. If you can implement these steps you have a great chance to stop stuttering or at least get better control over your speaking.
